An Expert Presentation of Dual Dry Clutches
Dual Dry Clutches (DDC) are becoming more common in new vehicles, and that number will only grow over the next few years. In this 28-minute free webinar, you will get a general overview of this technology, including why it was invented, how it functions, and installation and repair information.
What Is a Dual Dry Clutch?
Today's different transmission systems are more complex than manual or automatic transmissions. Transmission hybridisation has produced an array of systems like robotised manuals, dual wet clutches, and now dual dry clutch transmissions. We’ll explain the design considerations for new transmission systems, and what requirements led to the development of dual dry clutches. You’ll discover the design advantages of DDCs and the advantages for the consumer.
How Does a Dual Dry Clutch Function?
A dual dry clutch works differently than a dual wet clutch because it has different parts and is more efficient. Discover why they are used in different applications. We’ll go over the DDC's major components and their principles of operation. This will include technical illustrations highlighting each part, so you can better understand its location and function. We’ll also explain the architecture of the DDC and how its mechanical operation compares to a standard clutch. You will learn how the dual mass flywheel used in DDC clutches differs from the standard DMF. We will explain design decisions like why electronically controlled actuators were chosen over hydraulic ones.
Issues with the Dual Dry Clutch
The DDC is a clever design, but it’s not infallible. You will learn how to identify visible wear on the DDC and flywheel and the consequences of failing to spot damage. We will explain the thermal management warnings, why the DDC can overheat, and why it is important to follow the warnings. You’ll discover the two different designs that can connect the DDC to the dual mass flywheel and how to connect them properly to avoid damage.
Proper Installation of the Dual Dry Clutch
Proper installation and repair of the DDC require special tools and actions. We will examine the mandatory tooling to perform a complete repair of the DDC. You’ll discover tools like the actuator rod adjusting tool and hybrid rotor coupling installer and why they are required for DDC installation. You’ll also learn why the actuator needs to be recalibrated on a worn clutch.
Valeo Clutches
We will explain exactly what comes in the Valeo DDC kit. We’ll also tell you which OE manufacturer offers DDCs on their vehicles and which specific models are equipped with the technology.
Valeo offers a wide range of clutches for OE manufacturers, plus clutch kits and replacement parts for the aftermarket. Visit our Tech@ssist parts finder portal to search for a specific part by parts number, vehicle model, or VIN. In the download section of the webinar, we’ve included technical service bulletins on flywheel replacement, removing and installing dual dry clutches, and more.
