Valeo's Vehicle Air-Conditioning Refrigerant Training - Legislation & Best Practices Refresher

Why has the gas used in vehicle air conditioning systems has changed over time?

Vehicle Air Conditioning Refrigerant

Learn the History, the Legal and Environmental Issues, and Safety Precautions.

Want to know more about vehicle air conditioning systems? In this 25-minute free webinar, you will learn everything you need to know about car air conditioning refrigerants. Our resident expert Steve Knight will walk you through best practices for handling refrigerant gasses, a history of their evolution, and the major legislation that determines which gasses are legal to use in new car. Even if you’re familiar with the technology, this webinar is a great refresher to make sure you’re up to date on the latest safety and legal information.

What Are Car Air Conditioning Refrigerants?

What gases are actually cooling a vehicle’s air conditioning system? We’ll introduce the main refrigerant gases in use today and examine them from a scientific standpoint. We’ll explain why the type of gas used in vehicle air conditioning systems has changed over the years. You’ll also learn what equipment to use when refilling car A/C refrigerants such as the Valeo Climfill car A/C recharge station.

Safely Handling Car Air Conditioning Refrigerants

Refrigerant gases can be quite dangerous if improperly handled. We’ll cover the best practices for handling car A/C refrigerant gases and the potential dangers of improperly handling them. You’ll learn about the risks of refrigerants for your skin, eyes, lungs, and more. We’ll list the safety equipment you should always follow when handling refrigerants. You’ll discover why latex or nitrile gloves aren’t enough to prevent serious injury. You’ll also learn which refrigerants are flammable and why inflammable refrigerants should still never be near an open flame.

Legislation for Car Air Conditioning Refrigerants

A driving factor behind the change in refrigerant gas type is legislation. We’ll explain the environmental situation driving these laws and how they have become more stringent with time. You’ll learn why refrigerants like R12 were once common but are now illegal. We’ll explain what refrigerant gases are equipping vehicles today and why the legislation continues to evolve.

Car Air Conditioning Refrigerants and the Environment

We will briefly examine how some refrigerants contribute to ozone layer depletion and all of them to greenhouse gas emissions and global warming. We’ll explain why they have this effect and how newer car A/C refrigerants are more environmentally friendly than older types. We’ll explore the different types of greenhouse gases and which ones are used for refrigeration. You’ll learn why the newest refrigerants are still contributing to climate change.

Valeo ClimFill™

The Valeo ClimFill™ station is a fully automatic car A/C recharger station for passenger vehicles. The ClimFill™ Maxi extends these benefits to truck and bus applications. Valeo also produces parts for vehicle air conditioning systems like condensers and heater cores. Visit the Valeo Tech@ssist part finder portal to find a part by VIN, model, or part number. You can also find our other webinars in Tech@ssist ranging from installation guides to broad topic overviews.

What You Will Learn in Our Webinar

In this webinar, you will learn:

  • What are the different car A/C refrigerant gases
  • Best practices to safely work with them
  • How legislation reduces the role of refrigerant gases in global warming

Afterwards, you can download materials like technical service bulletins on climfill machine requirements and recommendations or precautions for re-gassing Fiat and Ford air conditioning loops. We’ll also include the Valeo air conditioning technical handbook.
